Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care
A Generous Gift
Rob Sands, his family and Constellation Brands have been long-standing allies of Rochester Regional Health. We are pleased to announce that this partnership has again proven fruitful with a transformational gift of $20 million to fund the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care at Rochester General Hospital (RGH).
“My parents set a wonderful philanthropic example and instilled in us the importance of giving back to support your community,” says Sands. “It is a tradition that as a company and as individuals we continue to uphold and have woven into the fabric of our business.”
Sands has a long-time vested interest in health care and has already had a significant impact on the health system. He has served on various system boards in some capacity since 1997. In 2013, the Sands family and Constellation brands helped to create the Sands-Constellation Heart Institute, which continues to grow in scope at several Rochester Regional locations.
He has learned that it often takes vision and leadership of private individuals and companies to get the ball rolling on key initiatives. It is his hope that his gift will encourage other local leaders and organizations to support not only this project, but the larger Rochester Regional Health campaign initiative as well.
“Caring for the future health of our region is a shared responsibility. I am incredibly pleased to do our part to make this happen and hope our contribution inspires other community leaders to join Rochester Regional in this transformational fundraising effort,” remarks Sands.
Construction on the 7-story, 312,000-square foot center will begin in the Spring of 2017 with an anticipated opening in 2020. The new building will feature 23 multi-disciplinary operating rooms, 108 private acuity-adaptable patient rooms, 20 private post partum rooms and 14 special care nursery rooms. The project will also include renovations of the current second and third floors of the hospital to update pre-operative services and women’s health respectively.
The completion of the center, along with the transition of several outpatient clinics to the new Riedman Health Center nearby, will allow for the renovation of current space within the hospital. Together, these three initiatives comprise the larger vision for the modernization of Rochester General Hospital, and is the starting point of the larger, system-wide campaign efforts.
“This is a crucial project for our long-term success and Rob has provided us with a tremendous head start,” says Eric Bieber, MD and CEO for Rochester Regional Health. “Truly, this is a complete overhaul of the entire hospital and will set the stage for other major projects across the entire system.”
Details on campaign projects at other Rochester Regional Health properties will be shared throughout the course of 2017. Please contact the Foundations Office if you are interested in becoming involved with supporting these fundraising efforts, 585.922.4800 or via email.
