Oct 13, 2017
It’s October 7. More than 1,700 of Rochester Regional Health’s friends and employees are seated at tables in the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center’s Empire Hall for the 2017 Rochester Regional Health Gala.
On stage, system President and CEO, Eric Bieber, MD, says he has some exciting news to share.
Dr. Bieber announces that Marjorie Morris and G.W. Lisk, Co., Inc., have committed a combined $3 million in support of the Because Care Matters Campaign for the creation of a medical village at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
After some expressions of gratitude, Dr. Bieber announces a second gift, this one from the Twigs of the Rochester General Hospital Association: $2.5 million for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the new Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care at Rochester General Hospital.
The announcements were inspiring examples of generosity. And then a video introduced everyone to Bajro, Hank, Jennifer and Milagros, four former Rochester Regional patients. Their personal care experiences served as powerful reminders of who aims to benefit most from the Campaign’s success.
Those who were especially moved by the stories of care had an opportunity to use their cell phone or a pledge card to give to the Lipson Cancer Institute, Health Reach’s Healthcare for the Homeless program, neurosciences at Rochester Regional Health or the Sands-Constellation Heart Institute, or they could make an undesignated gift.

Between those who made gifts during the program and the evening’s sponsors, led by Wegman Companies, Inc., the Gala’s presenting sponsor for the third year in a row, the Gala raised a total of $1.3 million.
Michele Grazulis, president of the Rochester Regional Health Foundations, underscored the impact this support has on patients by giving examples of what it could become. For instance, a gift of $500 buys therapeutic toys for toddlers and pre-teens who have sustained head injuries. And a gift of $1500 gives patients like Milagros 30 nights at Hope House.
Gifts provide patients normalcy and comfort. But they also give our care providers the chance to further their education and tools they need to change and save lives.
