On Friday, December 1, the RIT men’s hockey team took on Holy Cross at RIT’s Polisseni Center. While the Tigers didn’t win on the ice that evening, the team definitely scored a win in the community service column during the third annual Tiger Teddy Bear Toss!
For this special promotion, fans were encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game. When RIT scored their first goal, fans threw their wrapped gifts onto the ice, showering the players in toys. An extra time out was held to collect all of the donated items.
“This is the third season we’ve held the Tiger Toss and our fans love it,” says Assistant Director Jordan Steffan. “It’s a unique opportunity for our fans to come together to support not only our men’s hockey team but also the community. Everyone in the building gets involved in something good and giving back.”
On Tuesday, December 12, members of the team visited Rochester General Hospital to personally deliver toys to pediatric patients. Steffan notes that each year, players walk away from the experience feeling like they have really made a difference.
“RIT and Rochester Regional have a great partnership and this is one way that we in athletics can support that alliance,” says Steffan.
