On November 14, hammers replaced shovels at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic (CSHC) when the more than 200 people came together to celebrate the commencing of the Medical Village project. When completed, this project will repurpose more than 50,000 square feet within the hospital’s current footprint and will provide a central hub for Ontario County’s outpatient healthcare needs. Construction will begin later this fall and will be executed in phases with an anticipated completion date in January 2020.
Along with a $25.5 million dollar grant from the state, the Medical Village was made possible by lead gifts from G.W. Lisk and Marjorie Morris that totaled $3 million. At the Wallbreaking event, Bob Woodhouse, board chair of G. W. Lisk, Co., Inc., emphasized that while the project is off to a healthy start, participation from members of the Clifton Springs community will be necessary to fully realize the comprehensive scope of this and other key plans for the hospital. Woodhouse appealed to the crowd by introducing the Lisk Morris Family Community Challenge, a two-year program that will match—up to $1.5 million—all gifts made by members of the community in support of Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
“We are very happy to be able to make this additional gift commitment towards this important project,” said Woodhouse. “But we will need the support of the entire community to fully realize this vision.”
During the ceremony, Woodhouse cited a speech made by the late husband of Marjorie Morris and former hospital board chair Drew Morris in 1972 when the hospital initially opened. In his comments about the new facility, Drew noted that “…bricks and mortar do not a hospital make. Hospitals are made by the medical and lay staffs which operate them and the bricks and mortar are only an aid to their efforts to produce better medical care.” Woodhouse echoed these sentiments saying that the new Medical Village at CSHC, along with the Rochester Regional Health network, will continue to help the hospital fulfill its role as a regional resource for top-notch medical care.
The Medical Village is the inaugural project for Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic in the Because Care Matters Campaign.
